Rarotonga

Rarotonga is the centre of the Cook Islands, it is 32 km in circumference and is dominated by mountain peaks which rise to 653m above sea level. Beautiful lush rain forests provide a dramatic backdrop to a palm-fringed shore. The island is almost completely encircled by reef, this harbours the island and creates a lagoon of clear turquoise waters and many inviting white sand beaches.

The Surf:

There is surf the whole way around the island and it varies from being between 50m to 300m off shore so no boat is required. The best way to get around is to hire a scooter which costs about $10 NZ per day. Most surf breaks are short and punchy with many heavy reef breaks. The most consistent break is ‘Socials’ a heavy L or R reef break (depending on swell direction) at the end of the air port run way, best surfed at high tide although can surf on all tides depending on how shallow you like your water
